Making Change Easier - Individual Success Study
Engineering to Fashion - 360 Degree Career Shift
Jane had been in a technical engineering role in the manufacturing sector for over ten years. Following a wide-scale redundancy wave, Jane was now seeking new opportunities.
Recognising that career pathways in her industry were now in a period of major decline Jane wanted to seek new directions and find a new career. She knew she no longer wanted to work in engineering and was well aware that a major career change can be challenging to achieve.
Working with her coach Rebecca, she discussed ideas she had for her future and together they explored potential opportunities in line with her passions and interests, identifying and researching potential career pathways, their prospects and entry requirements. Jane in particular had a long-term interest in fitness and personal training and really wanted to work with a highly popular fitness clothing apparel company.
Knowing she would be competing with people with relevant industry skills, Jane and Rebecca developed an innovative career marketing strategy to build her visibility and catch the attention of the company.
- A functional resume to showcase her value proposition and relevant skills
- A PowerPoint ‘Believe Board’ as a resume alternative aligned to her fitness and personal beliefs
- A high-impact cover letter to outline her passion and reasons for wanting to work with the company
- A 30-day Instagram/Twitter campaign featuring her promoting the company’s clothing range
- A social media strategy to follow and interact with the company.
Within a day of sending her resume 'Believe Board' to the company, the HR Manager called her to discuss career choices and a future transition into the company and she was subsequently offered a role supporting brand development in the company.
Feedback: “I am super excited about the future and am so grateful that I took your advice and stepped outside of my comfort zone with this one. It has definitely paid off. Further to that, XXXX from XXXXX head office highlighted that they "loved" my resume and my passion that it portrayed for the brand. Thank You Rebecca!
